Use this as a verification checklist
Your State programs, Medicaid rules, private insurance rules, and school processes can change. Use this page to organize your calls, then verify current details with the state program, insurer, school district, or clinician.
Who to contact first
Start with your pediatrician, your state's early intervention program if your child is under 3, your school district if your child is 3 or older, and your insurance member-services line if you are seeking private therapy coverage.
What to ask
Ask whether a referral is required, what documentation is needed, whether telepractice is covered, how long the waitlist is, whether cancellation lists exist, and whether AAC evaluation or parent coaching is available.
Protect yourself from dead ends
Write down names, dates, reference numbers, fax numbers, and promised next steps. If one path stalls, keep the others moving in parallel.
